Reti Medievali is a set of academic initiatives devoted to medieval studies, created in 1998 by a group of scholars from the universities of Florence, Naples, Palermo, Venice and Verona in response to the uneasiness caused by the fragmentation of historiographic languages and research subjects. In 2001 a large number of other Italian and foreign historians gathered around the initiative, willing to discuss with their peers beyond their respective chronological, thematic and disciplinary specialisations, and to experiment with ways to apply information technology to research, and to communicate knowledge.

RM Rivistal and RM E-Book publish online in open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License and are double-blind peer reviewed at least by two referees selected among high-profile scientists, in great majority belonging to foreign institutions.
The Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes (ANVUR) classified RM Rivista as one of the most highly regarded scholarly journals (Category A) in the "Area: 11 - Historical, philosophical, pedagogical and psychological sciences".

RM has been published since 2002 by Firenze University Press.

RM is indexed in the main bibliographical databases and present in the catalogues of hundreds of academic and research libraries worldwide:

La SocietÓ italiana degli storici medievisti e Reti Medievali hanno siglato una convenzione per sostenere la pi¨ ampia diffusione in rete, in libero accesso, delle pubblicazioni e delle iniziative scientifiche degli storici del medioevo.
